It’s hard to believe that it was almost exactly 10 years ago that I first attempted to launch this blog… And failed.
With the first iteration of the site, I couldn’t figure out who it was for or what I wanted to say. I also didn’t really know how often I should post, or whether anyone would care!
By around 2012, I decided to re-launch it, this time with a purpose: To help educate other likeminded filmmakers on how to bring their projects to life.
I started out by covering the basics – cameras, lenses, editing techniques – all the stuff I was learning at the time.
But as my path as a filmmaker became more clear, the blog evolved too. It was no longer just about the technical aspects of the craft, but also the creative and business facets too.
I launched my podcast (Show, Don’t Tell) and my Sunday newsletter (micro-budget weekly) as a means to share more of this new content each year, in a wider variety of formats.
To my surprise, both the podcast and newsletter grew exceptionally quickly, affording me the ability to spend more time doing what I love – making movies and giving back to the filmmaking community.
And I have all of you to thank for that opportunity.
Whether you’ve been following the blog from the beginning or have discovered it more recently, you have played an important role in my own path as a filmmaker… And I hope I have contributed to yours in some way too.
It’s incredibly rewarding to connect with many of you every week – whether through blog comments, social media interactions, or replies to my newsletter. Knowing that the material is resonating with you and helping your further your careers is what has kept me motivated over the past decade.
As we now enter 2020, I can’t wait to take this to the next level and to connect with those of you who are coming along for the ride.
I’ve made some changes to my daily workflow to allow me to release content more frequently in the new year so that I can more consistently hit my target of a new blog post, podcast and newsletter every single week.
But for now, a huge thank you to all of you who have joined me in this journey and motivated me to keep pushing on. This site literally wouldn’t exist without you!
Happy New Years and I’ll see you in 2020!
-Noam

atIt’s always encouraging when you do what you love and know that you are impacting lives. You’re doing a great job helping film makers learn the nitty gritty of their daily job.
I wish you have greater success this decade.
