Tip Of The Day: Focus On What’s Not In Your Frame

For the second instalment of my ‘Tip Of The Day’ videos, I wanted to focus on cinematography – specifically focusing your attention on not just what is in your frame, but more so on what is left out of your frame. We are often so wrapped up creating intricate shots and camera moves that show off a lot of the scene, setting, and background, that we forget that less is more when it comes to visual storytelling. I’ve always felt that telling a story through images is best executed by removing distractions, rather than adding unnecessary elements, which allows us to focus the viewers attention on the details that are most pertinent to the story.

Check back next Monday for the next instalment!
