Over the past month I’ve been busy recording and editing a brand new free course for filmmakers: Introduction to Color Grading, which just went live!
To me, color grading is one of the most essential skills for all micro-budget filmmakers to learn.
Like great sound design or visual effects, color has the ability to increase your production value in measurable ways, and is more accessible today than ever before.
Personally, of all the skills I’ve developed over the years as a filmmaker, the ability to color grade has arguably paid off more than any other.
It’s not only saved me a ton of time and money in post on my own projects, but also served as a lucrative revenue stream, and has led to countless creative collaborations with other filmmakers.
With that in mind, I decided to create this brand new 90+ minute video course, to help other filmmakers follow suit.
It’s worth noting that this course is specifically designed for beginners, as an entry point to color grading. More intermediate/advanced users may be better suited for my Color Grading Masterclass, available here.
Throughout the new mini-course, we cover the most essential tools, technical considerations and creative processes that go into every professional color grade.
I’ve tried to make it as straightforward as possible, so even if you’ve never color graded before you can still get up to speed quickly.
While most of the lessons are demonstrated in Davinci Resolve, all of the principles outlined are universally applicable, no matter which editing software you may be working with.
Here’s a list of the lessons included:
Lesson 01: Essential Color Tools
Lesson 02: Order Of Operations
Lesson 03: Log to Rec 709
Lesson 04: Applying Creative Looks
Lesson 05: Working With LUTs
Lesson 06: Applying Film Grain
